Use the Ken Burns effect

The Ken Burns effect glides a virtual camera across a still. You draw two framing windows to say where the move starts and ends, and the editor does the rest.

  1. Open the motion editor Select an image clip and open Animation → Motion. The editor shows your image with two framing windows: Start and End.
  2. Frame the start Drag and resize the Start window over where the camera begins, which is often a wide view of the whole photo.
  3. Frame the end Position the End window on the destination: a tight crop on a face, a corner or a detail. Windows are locked to your canvas aspect, so nothing distorts.
  4. Preview and adjust Scrub the clip. The preview animates the move the way the export renders it, so adjust either window until the glide feels right.

Tips

  • Subtle wins: a 10–20% zoom over 5 seconds reads as cinematic, while big moves read as a slideshow.
  • Alternate zoom-in and zoom-out shots across a photo sequence to avoid monotony.
  • Pair with cross-dissolves and a generated music bed for an instant photo film.
